Full Moon in Leo

While the sun is still in Aquarius, this weekend (February fifth or sixth depending on your time zone) the moon becomes full again and floats into Leo.

In general, full moons represent the completion of a cycle. The moon has gone through all of its’ phases and stages and returned to her full capacity - big, bright and bold. The energy of the full moon provides space for us to soak in all that has shown up in our lives throughout this last moon cycle - both from the last full moon four weeks ago, and from the intentions we set two weeks ago on the new moon. A full moon can be a time of heightened energy, emotion and excitement. However, the flavour and theme of this energy widely varies depending on what sign the full moon is in. **Of course how this impacts each individual can also vary greatly depending on each unique astrological chart but more on that another time.

With the moon in Leo, we are brought the chance for extra energetic potency. Leo rules the sun, so he brings with him his sun energy. Leo urges us to shine even bigger, brighter and bolder. Leo signs can be known as attention seekers; they love to be on a stage and are not afraid to be the centre of attention. They are proud of themselves and their capabilities and often natural leaders. However, this does not come from a (purely) egoic place. Leos are driven from their hearts, they act and move from a place of loving intention and with their passion and loud energy they aim to please and leave a positive impression.

They also love to say yes to life. Leos are very loyal and they believe that others will return that loyalty - and that includes the universe. They easily trust the world, the universe and life to support them and therefore feel safe to be brave and put themselves out there. The symbol for Leo is the lion and not only does that represents Leos’ bravery and boldness, it also represents their soft hearted compassion underneath. Leo asks us to be vulnerable and authentic in the world from a place of soft bravery, not rigid ego.

This Leo full moon is asking us to acknowledge our gifts, let ourselves be seen, embrace joy, and trust that life is always working in our favour.

Journal Prompts:

  • Where in my life do I dull myself down to appease others - to not stand out or cause problems, fit in or people please? How can I show up for my truth even more? Where in my life am I dimming my light? How can I take a step towards embracing being seen?

  • How can I begin to accept the parts of myself that I feel shame around? How can I begin to bring these pieces to light?

  • What is my relationship like with being seen? Being different? Speaking up?

  • What in my life would change if I showed up as my full self?

  • What sparks joy and excitement for me? How can I incorporate this into my life daily?

  • Where in my life am I leading from my heart versus not? How can I let my heart lead my actions more? Is there something my heart is trying to tell me that I am ignoring?

Plants to work with:

  • Sunflowers - the ultimate sun plant. Sunflowers channel Leo’s energy and can be supportive to have around you during this full moon. Sunflowers always remind me to shine my light as bright as possible with confidence and grace.

  • Marigold/Calendula - sometimes known as the “plant of the sun,” it helps to channel passion, creativity and protection.

  • Saffron - in history this has been popularly used by royalty. It is known to support confidence, luck, intuition and sensuality.

  • Rosemary - she is known to promote self-love, romantic love, and strengthens the heart and intuition.

Yoga / Mindfulness Practices:

  • PLAY - do something that is purely for the sake of your enjoyment. Something that sparks childlike joy in you with no need to justify or explain it.

  • Compliment List - this is like a gratitude list but for yourself. This can be a hard one for some people (myself included) but try to list out at least five things (to as many as you can) that you love about yourself, are proud of yourself for, or are grateful for about yourself. You can include people who support you in being your biggest, brightest and boldest self. And bonus points if you share that list with someone and have them share their compliment list with you :).

  • Heart Centred Meditation - take a moment (even one minute will do) to place a hand on your heart and ask yourself what your heart needs. Truly give space for a response to come up without questioning or judging whatever arises. Then, use the energy of Leo to take action and move from this heart centred place.

  • Full Moon Circle / Ritual - this may be the perfect full moon to attend a full moon circle or a ritual of any kind, whatever this means for you. You can even go to a karaoke night, dance to your favourite song, or howl under the moon… whatever your heart calls to you, let yourself be seen.
