Details on Yoga Therapy and Herbalism

What is Yoga Therapy? What is Herbalism? These are common questions that I get when I tell people what I do. I wanted to go into more detail about both and my journey with them in hopes of creating some understanding.

YOGA THERAPY

“The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.” ― T.K.V. Desikachar

Yoga is a foundation on which you can build your life…

One of the most common misconceptions I hear about yoga is that it is solely exercise and about the postures - the asana. In actuality, Yoga has so many different aspects and the physical postures are only one tiny piece of that. True Yoga is about taking away outside distractions, going inwards, and then bringing all the truths uncovered back out onto the world. The most important part of Yoga is not what you do on the mat, but how that process teaches you to live life off of it. Asana, pranayama (breath-work), meditation, these are some of the tools Yoga teaches us that can help you come back to yourself time and time again.

Yoga Therapy is different from being a yoga teacher. To become a Yoga Therapist you must have your 500 hour advanced teacher training and then go on to do the Yoga Therapy training. Yoga Therapy specifically takes these healing practices, and many more, to a deeper level to meet the needs of each individual. Becoming a Yoga Therapist has brought so much transformation, growth and healing to my own life and it is a gift to be able to share that with others. Some of my trainings include:

iRest level 1, Meditation, Pranayama, Yoga of Recovery, Yoga for Grief, Trauma, Cancer, Heart Disease, Pain Management, Pre-Natal, Chair Yoga, Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation and more…

HERBALISM

Mother Nature wants us to be balanced, she provides everything we need to find that grounding within ourselves.

As we deepen our connection to nature, we deepen our connection to ourselves.

Health and wellness can be a convoluted, delicate topic. It is something that caught my attention and energy at a fairly young age. Over the past few years, this passion for health and wellness has transformed into seeking true balance and vitality and to living simply, seasonally, and connected to nature. That has led me to herbalism. Herbalism is an alternative form of healing which uses plants as medicine. Plants can be transformed into several different forms of medicine such as teas, tinctures, salves, flower essences, to name a few. The type of medicine and plants used is determined by the root cause of the issues or concerns confronting the individual.

I have been slowly soaking in all the information I can through books, classes, and self-study. This process has deepened my commitment and passion even further. I studied Herbal Medicine Making with Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine. I am now continuing my training with my mentor in England. As an herbalist, my primary goal is to engage with individuals on an in-depth journey to create plant medicine specifically formulated to help bring their bodies back into balance. This can be to help heal a chronic or acute condition whether mental, emotional, physical or spiritual.

I believe that the root cause of many of our issues, individually and systemically, lie within ourselves. Yoga Therapy and Herbalism work beautifully together in creating a foundation for us to reconnect to ourselves and know ourselves on a deep level. My hope is to provide these tools to others so that we all can begin to reconnect to our intuitions and learn how to heal ourselves.
